Design Range - Power

Are you sick of the financial drain on your hard earned dollars to run your powerboat? Our designs are the ultimate in fuel efficiency, engineering and modern styling. An example - a Schionning 40 foot powercat can cruise all day using approximately 1.5 litres of diesel per nautical mile (23 litres per hour) at 15 knots, and achieve a top speed of 22 knots with only 250hp. See our range of economical cruisers below...

Below you will find information on our different ranges of power catamarans, the design ranges differ mostly in their materials and method of construction. You may find two boats of the same length are not the same due to different power to weight ratio, hull beam etc, so we have drawn up a table to help you to identify the differences. This table will also be useful when comparing other designs to our own if you get the various statistics from the designer. You can access the Design Comparison Table here.

Our Aquaplay range of power cats are perfect live-aboard, long distance cruisers. With higher displacement and fuller beam to length ratio's than the Prowlers, they will cruise around 12 knots economically and very comfortably. Construction is strip planked Durakore or Western Red Cedar with composite panels for flat areas and furniture.

The Alaskan Power Catamaran range fits between our Prowler and Aquaplay designs. The Alaskan 41 (12.5m) follows a "Classic" look while the 52 (15.8m) is more the "Trawler" style of cat. Both cats have the same underwater section with economical cruising speeds of around 15-16 knots. Very much family boats capable of ocean crossings - our real passagemakers.

<FONT FACE="TAHOMA" SIZE="3"><B>Prowler Power Cats</B><BR><BR> Prowler Power Cats

The Prowler range of Power Cats use a semi-displacement hull shape that allows speeds over 20 knots. The range includes a 7m, 9m (production and custom only), 11m, & 580 (58’). Their very efficient hull shapes reduce fuel consumption and give exceptional fuel economy and cruising capabilities. Some Prowlers are production built, some have kits available and others are available in plan form being strip planked Durakore - check each individual design.

“Sea Shanty”, the name conjures up visions of thatch, sand, and crystal clear water. Simplicity, practicality, and the great outdoors, this is exactly what she’s about. The Sea Shanty is based on the hull form of our very successful 16m Ferry built in Australia and used in Vanuatu to carry passengers around the islands. While she was being built, Lorraine and I spent some time cruising on our Trimaran and we kept coming back to the idea that the Ferry would make the ideal platform for a comfortable world cruising home.
